The Third Grade students are currently in the middle of their Shelter Block. The students learn about (and build!) various types of dwellings, including adobe homes, stilt houses, igluvigaks, tee pees, turf houses, long houses and more!
The Seventh Grade students have been busy creating voltaic Piles - the first electrical battery. We used the common materials of copper, zinc, vinegar, lemons, and salt. The lemon battery generated over 5 volts and powered an LED light bulb bright enough to cast a shadow!
Our Fourth Grade class has been working on cross stitch with our Upper Grades Handwork teacher, Ms. Lambert. The students first create their own custom design on grid paper and then bring it to life via cross stitch! The results are unique and beautiful!
Since we are currently unable to gather as a group for assembly each Friday, we wanted to share a recording of the Fifth Grade students singing. This is a four part round, sung first all together. The Heartwood Center lends itself to the musicality of the children with its lovely acoustics. The song is called Winter's Fall.
